my fear...the car wash.

A recent development over at 2520 is the amount of bird poop that has landed on our cars. Seriously, I have never seen so much bird poop on one's car before. Nasty. Andrea went to get her car washed the other day, and came home with a new sparkly, clean car. Mine, on the other hand, still looks disgusting and gross. It's bad.

As we were driving the other day, I told her that I have a fear of going through car washes. I also told her that I have never really driven through a car wash before...only with my parents. Andrea then told me that she has a fear of car washes as well, and has never gone through one by herself until Saturday. What?! I have never known this!!! :)

I don't know what it is about car washes. I think it's the feeling of being confined to a small space and being surrounded by water. Ick! I don't like that feeling. Or the possibility of being stuck in there....not good. I don't know. It's just something silly that I'm afraid of. Andrea can't even explain why she's afraid. She just is.

Is anyone else afraid of going through car washes?

I love going through car washes. I have ever since I was little. I love hearing the water on the top of the car and watching the soap and such coat the windows. My favorite thing about the car wash is the end result...sparkling clean. It's the hope of something cleaner and purer. Too bad there's nothing in our lives that can compare to that, you know, that can give us hope and the end result of being sparkling clean. Oh, wait...Christ does! (I promise this comment didn't begin as a metaphor, but sometimes they jump you when you're least expecting them)

When I was little going through the car wash was my favorite errand to run with my mom. Because at the end we always got a sucker, and I thought the pink and blue soap was the sweetest stuff in the world.

I used to secretly wish that my parents would take the car through the car wash every time we went to the gas station. Now that I have my own car, I never take it through the car wash. Adulthood made me realize that the car wash isn't a "ride". It costs money. :)

Bobby and Steve's carwash on the corner of Washington and 35 has a guy (Bobby?) who stands at the front and "pre-suds" your car for you.

He could always help you out if you're alone and things get confusing.

Steph- I can understand your irrational fear. I really don't mind car washes, but every time I'm in them I think about the possibility of the water pressure being so strong that it knocks out one of my windows. I then try to plan what I would do if that happened because I don't want to get in the way of the hot wax.

Oh! I forgot about the hot wax!

And...what if your car has to get on those moving tracks to help your car move along?? I am afraid that I would miss those tracks!

lisa, you were really engaged in a car wash??!

and tyler, that's where i went to get my first car wash...bobby & steves. it was nice and comforting to have someone out there to tell me what to do...but he laughed at me because my car was SO gross!

and....car washes are expensive...my dad has a pressure sprayer and used to wash our cars for us. i miss that.....

I'm another person afraid of carwashes.

In the rare times I have one,(once every 100 years!) I usually pray until the experience is finished.

Read my blog about my most recent reactions.

Would you be interested in exchanging links or maybe guest writing a blog
article or vice-versa? My site goes over a lot of
the same subjects as yours and I believe we could greatly benefit from each other.
If you might be interested feel free to shoot me an email.

Holy crap, I have a fear of car-washes as well!! I thought I was the only one on the planet. It's hard to explain why though, I don't know why I'm scared of them! I think it's mainly the fear of getting stuck in there.

be glad that you happen to be not pressured collectivist dogma yet
(never worry, it will appear). Public schooling?
doesn't teach you how to think, it teaches you how you can be considered a follower of the authoritarian large, bad State.

As a teenager I used to tell my girlfriend, who was scared to death of car washes, that "it's just a car wash machine, not a giant meat grinder"! Made it even worse! LOLOL!!!
